Paulig 1750

Wautier Carpets is a proud representative of Paulig 1750 supplying their hand made Moroccan Berber and hand made natural fibre and dye woven rugs to Australian customers. Founded in 1750 by master clothier Johann Christian Paulig in Sommerfeld, Paulig has evolved into a family-run manufactory now in its ninth generation, headquartered in Schwarzach am Main, Germany. The company regards itself not as a factory, but as a true manufactory—a place defined by handcrafting (from Latin manus “hand” and factura “making”). Every stage of production—including sheep-shearing, dyeing, spinning, weaving, knotting, and finishing—is carried out by artisans to ensure high quality and soul-infused craftsmanship.

Paulig presents a range of handcrafted rugs in collections such as Salsa and Beat. The Salsa line is celebrated for refined designs rich in variety and experimental flair, while the Beat collection focuses on durability, simplicity, and modern aesthetics, using 100% new wool. At the heart of Paulig’s philosophy are sustainability, fair working conditions, and ecological responsibility. They employ natural raw materials such as wool, jute, cotton, hemp, sisal, and silk—and use non-toxic, Öko-Tex Standard 100 certified moth protection and Swiss eco-dyeing agents. Their entire value chain is transparent—from washing wool with pure water through to finished rugs—allowing careful environmental stewardship and consistent quality. Paulig is also a member of STEP Fairtrade Carpets, supporting fair wages, child labor prevention, independent oversight, and eco-friendly practices.

The Wool Edit

Wool brings a quiet luxury to interiors—naturally soft, resilient, and renewable. It insulates against noise and temperature, resists flame, purifies indoor air, and wears beautifully over time. For designers, it offers a rich, tactile foundation grounded in nature.

The Monasch Collection takes wool further, weaving it into circular broadloom and rugs that combine refined design with real sustainability. With a scannable product passport, every Monasch piece reveals its origin, making transparency part of the design story. What truly sets Monasch apart is its commitment to circularity. Using Niaga® technology, rugs are constructed with a detachable backing—meaning they can be cleanly separated and either recycled or biodegraded at end of life. No glues, no compromises.

Jacaranda in Australia

We believe that wool makes great carpets. Sheep grow new fleeces every year so wool is natural, renewable and biodegradable too. Wool is soft and warm but hard-wearing and naturally fire retardant. Wool fibres are naturally coated in lanolin providing stain resistance. For those that love shine, we hand-weave with the botanic fibre TENCEL™, winner of the “European Award for the Environment”.

That is why we are so pleased to announce that Wautier has been appointed Australasian distributor and partner for the renowned Jacaranda Carpets. Jacaranda craft beautiful handmade floor coverings, deeply rooted in quality, ethics, and environmental responsibility—with a genuine love for natural, tactile textures.
