Care + Maintenance
To help maintain the appearance, performance and longevity of your carpet or rug, we recommend following the care instructions specific to its fibre composition. Refer to the guidelines below for recommended cleaning and maintenance practices.
-
Use cool water and a wool-safe cleaner. Wool can shrink and felt with heat or alkaline cleaners. Always choose pH-neutral products and blot motions, avoid scrubbing.
-
Use mild detergent with warm water.
Lumi Silk is a premium engineered nylon and is durable but can stain if not treated quickly. Blot instead of rubbing, and avoid harsh chemicals. -
Keep moisture to a minimum.
Tencel is prone to water spotting and distortion. Use low-moisture or dry cleaning extraction methods only. Professional cleaning recommended, please see our recommended professionals here. -
Avoid excess water and blot gently. Bamboo fibres (often rayon-based) are sensitive to moisture. Too much water or agitation can weaken them.
-
Vacuum gently, without a beater bar (rotating bar on some vacuum heads). Merino is fine and delicate. Aggressive vacuuming can cause fuzzing or stretching of the fibres.
-
Dry clean only. Silk is extremely fragile when wet and stains easily. Professional cleaning is the safest option. Professional cleaning recommended, please see our recommended professionals here.

For allergy-conscious interiors, fibre selection and regular maintenance are key. Natural wool and high-quality synthetic fibres such as nylon can be excellent choices when paired with effective vacuuming and cleaning practices. Wautier is also undertaking ongoing research and development into QVIRA, an innovative zinc-ion fibre technology designed to inhibit bacteria, fungi, viruses and dust mites, exploring its potential for healthier carpet and rug applications.
